Vision

At The Safe Space, we help change the world by assisting clients to become the best version of themselves. Trauma and loss interfere with our ability to love. By healing trauma, we are free to give and receive love. At The Safe Space, we help each other understand our pasts so we can identify and change patterns of behavior that no longer serve us. Our goal will be to make reflection a cherished hobby.

Your Role: You are not here by chance. We cannot process an event that makes it traumatic. You have been tasked with identifying, understanding, and healing from what brought you here. By doing so, you are challenging the stigma surrounding mental health, making it easier for others to get the help they need.

My role: I serve as a source of unconditional support and guide along your journey of self-discovery. I can tell you where we need to go and what you need, but you have to choose to do so. Consider me your Jiminy Cricket. I bring to your attention patterns of behaviors I observe and theories explaining these patterns. You are then tasked with accepting your role in these patterns and choosing to act differently.

Whether it be trauma, loss, unfulfillment, relationships, or addiction, the source of the distress stems from our response to what has happened. We heal when we can change how we see the situation.

Trauma-focused Approach

Whether from the past or present, trauma affects how we see ourselves and our environment. When traumatized, we can start to believe statements like: "I don't matter," "I'm not lovable or likable," and "the world is not to be trusted." Healing begins with being honest about what has occurred and how it affects us.

We are our choices.

The unfortunate reality is that we do not have control over every aspect of our lives. Within the limitation given, we do have complete control over how we respond. Change begins by realizing there is always a choice when it comes to how we perceive and respond to life's stressors, past or present.

We are what we expose ourselves to

By being more mindful of which people and pages we follow, we can limit our exposure to negative or unrealistic content. Simply unfollowing pages that make feel us feel "some type of way" can limit the negative stimuli we expose ourselves to and the negative emotions we experience as a result. Following pages that offer information and inspiration can do wonders for our mental health.

To grow, we must change. To change, we must heal.

Healing requires acknowledging, understanding, and letting go of the past. We must admit to the role we play in our own suffering. Only then can we be free. Easier said than done, but doable.
